A New Chapter....

ENTRANCE TO A CAVE IN TEXAS
It has been an interesting, fun, and tiring couple of weeks.  Texas was a lot of fun.  I had a great time exploring some caves with my dad.  Did you know caves in Texas are not cold?  We also had a day to travel to Corpus Christi to see my step sisters, I hadn't seen either of them in several years.  We didn't go do a ton while I was there, but I really enjoyed my visit.  I hope Dad and Daila enjoyed the visit too.

On the 24th of April I flew out to Alaska; although I enjoyed the warm weather in Texas; I still was very excited to get to Alaska.  I didn't get to bed the first night unti well past midnight.  Then reported to work the very next morning at 7:30.  It was kinda difficult to sleep since I was so excited just to be here.

I have taken quite a few pictures of what I thought was the mountain, just to learn that was not the mountain at all. On Wednesday I learned what the mountain was. :) It was quite amazing to see the mountain peeking above the clouds. It remained quite visible for a few days, and I have been able to get quite a few really good pictures.

This was NOT the mountain But it is a pretty one!

And neither is this :(  But still very pretty

This however IS THE MOUNTAIN!!!!!  It's quite amazing up close and personal.

So far the weather hasn't been too bad.  A little chilly at times but overall comfortable.  My job turned out to not be exactally what I expected, but everything for a reason right? Mostly it's just much more physicially demanding than what I am used to.  Which has caused some sore tired muscles, and frustration.  I am hoping once the employees arrive it will get a little easier.  At the moment there are only a little more than a dozen of us around here.  It makes for quite an isolated experience and I have really enjoyed the quiet time to myself.

This is where my dorm is.  I'm on the back side facing the hill.

On Thursday the boss took a few of us into the closest thing to a town around here;Talkeetna, Alaska 1 hour away for dinner and a tour of the town.  It has a population of only about 600 people depending on the time of year and most of the buildings are just old log cabins.  I would call it more of a villiage rather than a town.

I am looking forward to the arrival of the emloyees next week, and the guests in 2 weeks.  Once they arrive there will be much more to do around here, although my quiet time will be over.  The snow is melting quickly, and the sun seems to go down later and later every night.  It doesn't usually get dark now till somewhere around 11 pm. I am  looking forward to my first day off tomorrow; I could use some rest, and hopefully the weather will be nice.
 Much Love,  Lisa
